Peru's investment promotion agency Proinversión has decided to auction three blocks of spectrum in the 698-806MHz band to complement existing 4G LTE offerings, according to a publication in the official gazette El Peruano.
The auction is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2015.
Telefónica's local unit Movistar and Chilean operator Entel's Peruvian unit won spectrum in the 2,110-2,170MHz band in July. Entel acquired NII Holdings' Peruvian operation Nextel del Perú in April last year.
Entel Peru started offering 4G LTE services in the San Borja district of capital Lima in October.
The Spanish multinational already launched its 4G offering in Peru and in October said it had launched 4G LTE service in a total of 52 districts across the country and had nearly 200,000 subscribers for the service.
Movistar confirmed it is working to provide full LTE coverage in Lima, where it currently provides LTE coverage in 36 districts. Movistar Peru aims to invest US$400mn in its LTE deployment technology over the next five years.
