Santa Catarina state announces auction for prison PPP
Brazil’s Santa Catarina state will auction on December 20 a public-private partnership to build and operate a prison complex in Blumenau municipality, demanding around 250mn reais (US$48mn).
The contract was structured with the support of development bank BNDES, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the federal investment partnerships program (PPI). It involves a two-unit facility to house 2,900 inmates. BNDES said in a press release that the prison will be managed with technology and must offer inmates opportunities for work and education.

This is the second prison PPP structured with support from BNDES.
Rio Grande do Sul state planned an auction in September for a PPP to build and operate a prison in Erechim municipality, with projected investment of 157mn reais. However, the auction was suspended due to a lack of interest while a new date has not been announced.
