The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) announced the selection of a renewable energy project in Guyana for ADFD funding, as part of the sixth cycle of the IRENA/ADFD Project Facility.

Guyana's Ministry of Public Infrastructure will receive a loan of US$8mn to install 5.2MW of grid-connected solar PV systems in the hinterland regions to reduce fossil fuel consumption and increase the reliability of electricity supply.

Argentina's power regulator ENRE reported that Pampa Energia requested access to existing transport capacity to incorporate a 187MW gas turbine at the Genelba plant; and that Aluar Aluminio Argentina requested access to existing transport capacity for dispatch infrastructure as part of the company's 50.4MW Aluar Etapa I wind farm.

The watchdog also authorized Bioeléctrica Dos to access existing transport capacity for its 2.4MW Bioeléctrica Río Cuarto 2 biomass plant.

Ecuador's national assembly sent an energy efficiency bill to the executive branch for signing after it was submitted by Esteban Albornoz a year ago.

President Lenín Moreno has until February 9 to sign the bill into law or object to the initiative.
