The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) began the expansion of the pergola and passenger boarding and disembarkation corridors at the Rafael Núñez Airport in Cartagena, seeking to improve the capacity of the air side, while establishing the final project to expand the air terminal.
The works, which will increase the capacity and comfort of the existing pergola in the positions of access to the plane, 1, 2, 3, and 4, will be executed by the Sociedad Aeroportuaria de la Costa SA (SACSA), the current concessionaire of the airport and will expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020.
"These works will allow us to offer a better service in the Cartagena air terminal, which has had a continuous increase in passengers, to whom we must ensure comfort and comfort conditions," said Louis Kleyn, President of the ANI.
The works consist of the extension of 2,000 m2 of pergola, a structure composed of several columns on which a structure of beams in the form of a network is located, whose main purpose is to provide shade and comfort to airport users. This extension includes the construction of more than 940 new square meters and the remodeling of more than 1,060 square meters of the existing pergola.
In addition to these works, the entry into operation of the expansion of the international airport dock that was delivered during the first half of this year is highlighted, works that tripled the space for counter service, increased passenger seats by 25% transit, and enabled two service posts at each of the seven boarding gates.
At this airport, which is certified in compliance with quality standards described by ICAO, about 11 airlines arrive weekly, and on average more than 140 operations are carried out every week, of which the most frequent route is Cartagena - Bogotá .
