Argentina: The General Administration of Ports accelerated its digital transformation with SAP and Baitcon
This is a machine translation of Grupo Datco's press release
Buenos Aires, October 2022. Baitcon , the consulting firm specialized in services and development on the SAP platform belonging to Grupo Datco , was chosen through public tender by the General Administration of Ports SE (AGP) for the implementation of a resource planning system ( ERP) SAP S/4HANA Cloud. The implemented solution integrates all the management processes of the AGP, an agency dependent on the Ministry of Transport that manages the Port of Buenos Aires and the Main Navigable Way (VNT).
As part of this initiative, Baitcon implemented a project in stages at the AGP to provide a digital core to the federal agency that works for the growth of Argentine port activity, promoting foreign trade and the productive development of our country. For the project, different SAP functional modules were implemented that integrate the areas of: Budgeting, Administration and Finance, Treasury, Purchasing and Supply Management, Asset Control, Inventory Control, Logistics, Funds Management and Billing.
The project took a total period of 10 months to put the SAP S/4HANA Cloud solution into production, which allowed the AGP to renew its obsolete technological platform; integrate the different areas of the company to have reliable data and have a modern tool that accompanies the challenges of the organization.
Even though the scope of the project did not contemplate the incorporation of the Trunk Navigable Way business unit, for which the business processes were unknown because it was outsourced, it was possible to include it in the deployment of the solution and meet the agreed deadlines, leaving to production 20 days before the scheduled date.
Regarding this project, Sergio Gorgone, Manager of Systems and Information Technologies of the AGP, stated: "The General Administration of Ports has a quite complex digital ecosystem due to the operations and invoicing it manages. Our administration had a system that dated of the year 2000, with which we were facing a technological risk due to obsolescence. We had to decide to modernize our platform and, via tender, we chose to adopt SAP".
Among the reasons most valued by the important state-owned company when choosing between the different proposals evaluated, they opted for the SAP Solution offered by Baitcon due to its background and track record, both of the solution itself and of the integrator that had to implement it: "Baitcon accompanied us throughout the process with a team of more than 20 professionals to be able to carry out the entire implementation and fine-tuning of the new system," added Sergio Gorgone.
SAP was chosen for its ability to adapt to the needs of the AGP given the flexibility of solutions it offers; its predefined standards and quality. In this sense, the Manager of Systems and Information Technologies of the AGP indicated that “An important improvement is that SAP allows managing all the purchasing processes, involving all the managements, thus speeding up the purchasing process. Today we also have the possibility of doing a financial and operational follow-up and traceability that the company was needing”.
The solidity of the technical proposal, the experience in successful implementations of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud solution in other dependencies of the National State, as well as the trajectory of Baitcon as Gold Channel Partner of SAP, together with the knowledge of the team of consultants, were determining factors to be chosen to carry out this process of digital transformation of the AGP.
