On Thursday, November 10, the tender of the Independent Technical Organization (OTI) was awarded, a designation that fell to the consortium made up of the companies MedUX and Microsystem.
The company awarded the OTI must implement an application where users of Internet services can verify if the speed they receive is within the conditions agreed in their contract with the provider company. This measurement will be applied to all Internet providers regulated by Subtel.
"This award is great news for users, since once the application that will measure the speed of their Internet connections is operational, they will have a tool at hand that will allow them to verify if they are receiving the contracted service under the conditions agreed in the contract. The award of this independent technical body is also great news, since we are advancing after it was declared void in the previous process”, said the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya.
The President of the Representative Committee of the companies called to finance the system, Alfie Ulloa, commented that "in fixed internet Chile already has connection speeds among the three highest in the world, according to international measurements." The executive recalled that “the Minimum Speed Law establishes that the mechanism that will measure compliance with the conditions offered by internet providers (ISPs) to their customers and the quality of service measurements will be applied to all ISPs in the country. Once the mechanism is operational, customers will be able to verify if they are receiving the service offered through the application with which the measurements will be made. If the service does not comply with what is offered, you can file the corresponding claim.
The independent technical body that will develop the tool should be operational during the first half of 2023. The process began with ten companies that bought the bases. Another three started the purchase process, but did not complete it.
