São Paulo state water utility Sabesp will use technology to reduce fraud and water leaks among its main clients.
The company seeks to acquire 150,000 hydrometers by year-end to measure, in real-time, its main clients' water consumption.
Sabesp earns 45% of its revenues from these clients in São Paulo metropolitan region.
"Our focus is to preserve revenues, if we have any customer fraudulent, if we have any customer with a relevant change in the level of consumption, we have the condition to notify this the next day," Sabesp regional manager Marcelo Fornaziero Medeiros was quoted as saying by Valor Econômico newspaper.
The company plans to buy hydrometers through a tender and have them installed in the first half of 2019.
