WATER & WASTE: The week in 10 stories
Much of the waterworks focus in the new's week was on Brazil, as the country is planning no fewer than 17 state waterworks concession tenders over the next year or so.
BRAZIL
Of the planned 17 tenders, Rio de Janeiro state poses the largest challenge in terms of reaching universal waterworks coverage, followed by the states of Pará and Bahia.
Meanwhile, national development bank BNDES named the three consortiums provisionally selected to plan concession models for the first four states that are up for PPPs. The consortiums are EY-Felsberg-Muzzi-Ema for the state of Alagoas, PwC-Loeser-Portela-EGIS for Amapá, and the AQUA consortium for Maranhão and Pará states.
The concessions are being planned under the federal government's partnership investment program, PPI. BNDES is supporting the initiative with funding and technical know-how.
São Paulo's water utility Sabesp called six electronic tenders worth a total of 73.6mn reais (US$23.5mn). BNamericas published details of three on Tuesday and three on Wednesday.

COLOMBIA

For water, 60bn pesos will be invested, including a 32.2bn-pesos project to relocate the main intake of the Luruaco water pipeline which includes laying new pipes to carry raw water.
MEXICO
