Mexican state building four water reservoirs
The municipal government of Aguascalientes, capital of the central Mexican state of the same name, is building four new water reservoirs in different parts of the city to meet local water demand.
Construction of the reservoirs is being carried out under a municipal water plan for the city, and will be conducted by local water utility Capama, local daily La Jornada Aguascalientes reported.
The reservoirs will be located at the cardinal points of the city. Their construction involves the installation of a steel tank with a 5,000m3 storage capacity, which will be connected to a number of wells.
Authorities are initially investing 120mn pesos (US$6.4mn) of federal and local funds, which are being used exclusively for the installation of the tanks.
Construction of the reservoirs in the city's north and east are currently the most advanced, while the works on the western reservoir is expected to begin next year.
The municipal water plan also includes upgrading the city's water networks through a monitoring system to detect leaks. These works require investments of 40mn pesos and also involve carrying out 33 interventions to replace outdated pipelines.
The aim of the utility is to increase service efficiency from 45% to 75% by implementing the water plan.
