Potential bidders visit Chihuahua wastewater plant
A visit to the PTAR Sur wastewater treatment plant in northern Mexico's Chihuahua city, part of the tendering process for a contract to upgrade, operate and maintain the facility, attracted the interest of local and international firms.
Representatives of Suez Medio Ambiente México, Aquanovus, FYPASA Construcciones, Atlatec, Urbanizaciones y Construcciones CYMA and La Peninsular Compañía Constructora were present.
The winner of the 10-year contract will also be responsible for upgrading, operating and maintaining PTAR Norte, another wastewater plant serving the city.
Two clarification meetings are penciled in for March 28 and April 23, while the date to submit and open bids is May 2. The winner is expected to be announced on May 24.
The original tender for the contract, launched after the state congress authorized municipal water utility JMAS to invest up to 180mn pesos (US$9.5mn) plus VAT in the two plants, was declared void in early February as neither of the two bids submitted met requirements.
Operational expenses for the two plants are put at 75mn pesos a year plus VAT, according to the tender documents.
The plants are expected to help revenues from treated water increase 30mn pesos a year, and prevent around 700l/s of potable water being used for watering public parks and gardens.
The project is expected to benefit 144,000 residents of the city, which is the capital of Chihuahua state.
