Rio state utility pushes ahead with water initiative
Rio de Janeiro state water utility Cedae has entered the final stage of a project to expand and improve water supply in the metropolitan area called Baixada Fluminense.
The works are part of a major project totaling 3.4bn reais (US$1.08bn) to expand water supply across the country's second largest metropolitan area, Cedae said in a press release.
Cedae said the final phase of expanding the Baixada Fluminense pipeline has begun and it should enter operations within 120 days. The pipeline works are at 96% completion.
The utility is also placing 42m of pipes under the railway line between the Rocha Sobrinho and Ambaí stations in the city of Belford Roxo. These works will conclude by the end of February.
