Guatemala's vice president Roxana Baldetti has been presented with a master plan for the treatment of wastewater in lake Atitlán, Sololá, according to a release from the presidency. Spain's international cooperation agency AECID, has provided a 150mn quetzal (US$19.2mn) grant for the project, while the government will provide matched funding of 30mn quetzals. The institute of municipal development, Infom, is expected to invest in cleanup projects with assistance from the IDB. *** Tomás Sánchez and Guillermo Torres have been appointed as sub-directors of the Dominican Republic's national water authority ( Inapa), according to a release from the presidency. Meanwhile, Ramón Castillo has been named as the cabinet's potable water and sanitation advisor. *** Mexico's Tamaulipas state government has invested 150mn pesos (US$12mn) in the drilling of 12 wells in the semi-arid Altiplano region, according to a release from the state government. Some 3000 residents in the rural towns of Bustamante, Tula, Palmillas and Jaumave will benefit from the new water sources.
