Will Mexico's development plan end energy uncertainty?

Bnamericas

Although Mexico's President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced several energy plans such as the refining plan, the hydrocarbons plan and the electricity plan, concrete steps are still lacking.

Now the sector has pinned its hopes on the 2019-2024 national development plan, which will be presented to congress no later than April 30.

According to the administration, the plan will have three axes: justice and rule of law, social welfare and economic development. The government had organized 64 forums during which industry and citizens could submit their proposals.

The imminent publication of the development plan could also speed up the publication of the other plans.

Electricity plan PRODESEN has already been submitted to regulator CENACE, suggesting upcoming publication.

Industry players hope that these plans will bring some certainty to the sector, which sees a general lack of clarity on part of the government with increasing concern.
