Description

The 19.9MW Los Hierros run-of-the-river project will use water from the Melado river in south-central region VII and generate an estimated 29.9GWh/y, which will be injected into the central SIC grid. Given its size, Los Hierros qualifies as a non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) project under current energy laws. The initiative will employ 165 workers during the construction stage and five as permanent staff when in operation. The 25MW Los Hierros I plant began operating in early 2014, while the 5.5MW Los Hierros II project is slated to come online in early 2015.
