Description

The project seeks to satisfy 13-15% of Río Negro's power demand through an existing 132kV transmission line. The plant, which is expected to produce 49.63GWh/y, is part of a strategic provincial plan to provide essential services (water, irrigation, and power) to those areas in Río Negro where livestock can be raised successfully. The project will require nearly 34,280 workers, and a 30-year concession for use of public waters to generate electricity. The Salto Andersen hydro plant is classified as a non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) initiative. Argentina's national strategy for implementing the nation's renewable energy policy defines, among others, renewable energy as including small hydropower up to 30MW.
