Description

Panamanian generator Bahía Las Minas (BLM) is operating a coal-fired plant, for parent GDF Suez Energy Central America. The US$160mn project entailed replacing three 40MW bunker boilers with a single boiler using crushed coal. The coal's sulfur content is less than 1% compared to 3.5% for bunker, according to GDF. BLM is Panama's third largest generator with 280MW installed capacity, behind AES Panamá and Enel Fortuna, with 482MW and 300MW, respectively.
