Description

The US$43mn project is located within the Doña Carmen energy complex, in the municipality of La Ligua in central Chile's Valparaíso (V) and calls for the construction of two plants that will process non-recyclable plastic and tires to produce synthetic diesel. The first plant will have the capacity to process one tonne of industrial plastic waste to generate 700l of diesel, which will be used to feed two generation units of 1.6MWh each. The second plant will have the capacity to produce 1,300l of diesel for every two tonnes of tires processed. The diesel obtained will be used as fuel for four power generators of 1.5MWh each. In addition, the plants will generate 1.5MWh and 3MWh each through a Stirling thermal generator that reuses residual heat derived from the condensation of syngas to generate power. Upon approval, the construction of the plants will take up to 10 months and will have a total combined installed capacity of 14MWh, which will be connected to the country's central grid (SIC) through a 23kV transmission line linking to the Los Vilos-Nogales stretch. A tap-off substation is also under evaluation.
