Description

The Independencia potable water pipeline involves building a pipeline to transport water over 150km from the El Novillo reservoir to state capital Hermosillo. The pipeline initiative aims to improve access to potable water in the capital, which is seeing its growth limited by lack of available water supply. The project is part of Sonora's 11bn-peso Sonora SI integrated water plan, which was officially launched in April 2010. The program also involves building six new dams and reservoirs, as well as new potable water plants. The pipeline will transport 75Mm3/y of water with a capacity of 2.4m3/s. Some 800,000 people in Hermosillo should benefit from the project.
