Project Details

Developed by Eólica Monte Redondo S.A, a Chilean subsidiary of French multinational energy giant Engie (former GDF Suez), the Monte Redondo wind farm began construction in January 2009 in the city of Ovalle, 325km north of Santiago in Chile's Coquimbo region IV. The first phase of the project called for the construction and operation of 19 wind turbines of 2MW each, while a second phase of the project involving the installation of five additional wind turbines began construction during 2H10. At a total cost of US$127mn, the plant was completed and connected to the grid in February 2011 featuring 48MW of installed capacity. The energy generated is injected to the country's central SIC grid at the Los Vilos-Pan de Azúcar node. According to the developer, Monte Redondo achieved the highest plant factor (25%) among Chilean wind farms in 2010, generating energy for 2,179 hours (an average of 6 hours a day).
