Project Details

The Piedra Larga project calls for the construction of a wind farm comprising 114 wind turbines which will power Mexican food group Bimbo's 14 plants in Mexico. Spanish firm Renovalia Energy was awarded a contract for the construction, engineering, supply, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the wind turbines. With the startup and commissioning of Piedra Larga, Bimbo will become the first Mexican food distributor to use renewables. Electric generation is expected to equal the annual power consumption of 200,000 households, and will meet the power needs of 65 of the company's facilities. The project will help prevent the emissions of 510,100t of CO2 per year. The Piedra Larga wind farm project is being developed by Desarrollos Eólicos Mexicanos, a subsidiary of Spain's Renovalia Energy.
