Description

The Spence growth project aims to process hypogene mineral and expand the mine life by up to 20 years, from 2019 up to 2039, by processing primary sulfides. The project involves the operation of a concentrator plant with a processing rate that ranges from 95,000tpd to 110,000tpd. Mineral processing will be carried out by conventional flotation methods to produce copper and molybdenum concentrate. The project has estimated mineral resources of 515Mt at 0.47% copper (measured), 795Mt at 0.45% copper (indicated) and 1,010Mt at 0.39% (inferred). The project covers an area of 2,855ha and will require an estimated workforce of 4,100 people during the construction phase. BHP Billiton owns the project through its fully-owned subsidiary Minera Spence S.A.
