Description

The Tres Valles project includes the Papamono underground mine in Illapel and the Don Gabriel open pit site located in Salamanca. The ore will be processed by the method of extracting (LX-SX-EW process) mixed oxide-sulfide ore. Tres Valles will require 600 workers during the construction phase and is expected to generate 300 jobs during the ensuing operational phase. Will reach full commercial output capacity by the middle of 2012. In May 2013, former owner Brazilian miner Vale submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) to increase throughput at the processing plant from 5,400t/d to 7,500t/d in order to achieve the production goal of 200,000t of copper over the 11-year life of the operation. In December 2013 Vale sold its Tres Valles copper complex in Chile to local firm Vecchiola in a deal worth US$25mn.
