ArcelorMittal Brasil, the local unit of Luxembourg-based steel giant ArcelorMittal, engages in the production and sale of steel and wire in Latin America. ArcelorMittal is the leading steel producer in the country with a 34% market share of Brazilian crude steel output at end-2010. It is also the largest steel producer in Latin America with an installed capacity of 15Mt/y and 29 steel manufacturing plants in Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica and Venezuela. Its subsidiaries include long and flat steelmakers ArcelorMittal Aços Longos (including Argentina's Acindar and ArcelorMittal Costa Rica); ArcelorMittal Tubarão; and ArcelorMittal Vega. Its products - including long carbon steel, plain steel, flat carbon steel, wire rods, steel cords, hot-rolled coils, cold rolled coils, bars, profiles, wires, mesh screens, and beams - have applications in the car, household appliance, packaging, construction, farming, and naval industries. The firm was founded in 1917 and is based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
