Description

The Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) is headquartered in Santiago, Chile. One of the United Nations' five regional commissions, it was founded with the purpose of contributing to the economic development of Latin America and reinforcing economic ties between its countries and other world nations. The promotion of the region's social development was later included among its primary objectives. It was established in 1948.
