Chilean telecom operator Movistar Chile, a privately held subsidiary of Spanish telecom giant Telefónica, offers mobile telecommunications services including calling services, mobile Internet, mobile broadband, international roaming, and other value-added services, for residential and commercial clients. Since 2009, the company's commercial operations were unified under the Movistar brand. It currently has 9.2 million subscribers in the mobile telephony segment. The telco offers the service through GSM, 3G and 4G technology. Telefónica Móviles Chile (Movistar Chile) was incorporated in 1980 as a limited responsibility company named Cid Comunicaciones Limitada. Telefónica acquired a 100% stake in the company in 2004. Movistar Chile is headquartered in Santiago.
