Northeastern Brazil's Bahia state water utility Embasa provides drinking water to 8.8mn residents and wastewater treatment services to a population of more than 3mn. It owns and operates a 21,300-km water distribution network and a 5,500-km sewerage network system. Embasa provides 94.3% of the population with potable water and 34.6% with sewage collection service in its coverage area. The company has recently called three tenders to increase sewerage service coverage throughout the northeastern state. The largest one entails a 24-month project to expand the Itaberabe city sewer system. A total of 208km of pipelines, three pumping stations, and a wastewater treatment plant will be installed. Embasa was founded in 1971 and is based in Salvador, Brazil.
