Colombian state telco Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogotá (ETB) provides mobile, TV, fiber optics, local and long distance telephony, internet and data storage services. The firm operated as an MVNO until 2013, when it was awarded mobile licenses. As part of a strategy to add new products to its portfolio, ETB launched 4G and IPTV services during 2014. That same year, ETB purchased a 75% stake in local satellite communications firm Skynet, aiming to improve its offering for corporate and government clients with a presence in isolated areas of the country. The company also sold its minority stake in Tigo to fellow state telco UNE for US$240mn, but kept a 50% share of the spectrum that the two companies originally bid for. ETB was founded in 1884 under the name Compañía Colombiana de Teléfonos and adopted its current name in 1992. Bogotá's municipal government has a majority stake in the company.
