Global Village Telecom (GVT) is a fixed telecommunications carrier operating in the southern, mid-western and part of the northern regions of Brazil. It offers internet and data transmission services as well as national and international long distance services for residential, corporate, small and medium-size businesses. In São Paulo the company is focused exclusively on the corporate market. GVT operates a next generation network (NGN) that allows for complete integration in voice, data and image transmission. In 2014, Telefonica agreed to buy GVT from its controller, French firm Vivendi. The Spanish telco expects to receive final regulatory approval from Brazil's antitrust body Cade and telecoms regulator Anatel, in order to conclude the acquisition by mid-2015. The company was founded in 1998 and is based in Curitiba, Brazil.
