Metrogas is a Chilean gas distributor which serves more than 527,000 customers in residential, commercial and industrial markets in the country's Santiago Metropolitan region and O'Higgins region (VI). The company owns and operates over 5,200km of natural gas pipelines. Metrogas, which is controlled by local energy holding company CGE through Gasco, imports gas through its 20%-owned GNL Quintero regasification plant in Chile's Valparaíso region (V). It was incorporated in 1994 and is based in Santiago, Chile. On 26 May 2016, as part of the corporate restructuring of CGE, Metrogas announced that it will split its business into a natural gas distribution division, controlled by the society that will retain the name Metrogas S.A., and a natural gas supply division, controlled by a new society called Aprovisionadora Global de Energía S.A. The process is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2016.
