Mobile phone operator Orange Dominicana, a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based investment fund Altice Group, introduced its brand for the first time in Latin America on November 17, 2000, entering the Dominican Republic as the first operator with GSM technology. It offers a range of voice, data and international communication services to more than 1,800,000 subscribers. The company was acquired by Altice in 2014. A merger between Orange Dominicana and Santo Domingo-based Tricom Telecom, which was also acquired by Altice, is planned. The merged entity will adopt the Orange Dominicana brand name.
