The Talinay wind farm, which will boast 243, 2-3MW turbines along the coast in region IV, will inject 500MW into Chile's SIC central grid. The project also involves the installation of underground and surface transmission lines and the construction of an electrical substation. Coquimbo will become the country's first region able to meet fully its own power demand through the use of non-conventional renewable sources; if possible, it will also export power to other parts of Chile. The project will require a workforce of 1,800 during the construction phase and will then generate 2,160 jobs during the ensuing operational phase.
