Albemarle Corp. is one of the major manufacturers and sellers of specialty chemicals in the world. It has 49 facilities serving more than 2,700 clients in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Australia. In Latin America, the company has a chemical plant in Brazil and, following the acquisition of chemical firm Rockwood Holdings, added production sites at La Negra and at the Salar de Atacama salt flat in Chile's Antofagasta region (II), where it produces lithium and potash resources. The company also realigned its global business units into three divisions: Chemetall Surface Treatment will focus on the supply of specialty chemicals; Refining Solutions will consist of the firm's heavy oil upgrading and clean fuels technologies businesses; and Performance Chemicals will include the company's lithium, aluminum alkyls and derivative catalysts businesses.
