Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A. (SQM) is a Santiago-based non-metallic miner engaged in the production and distribution of specialty fertilizers. The company operates in five business areas: specialty plant nutrition, iodine, lithium, industrial chemicals and potassium. It also produces industrial chemicals, including nitrates, potassium chloride, boric acid and magnesium chloride. The world's largest producer of specialty fertilizers, iodine and lithium, SQM has most of its operations in northern Chile's Antofagasta region (II). In addition, it has commercial offices in more than 20 countries. SQM was founded in 1968.
