Description:
The information communications technology ministry is responsible for planning, regulation and control of telecommunications, computer and telematics, value-added, postal and specialized telecommunications services in Colombia. It was created for the purpose of defining and promoting information and communications policies to ensure that individuals, businesses and the government have access and a clear understanding of them in order to promote and develop the industry in the country. The Ministry is involved in the development of the Vive Digital social inclusion program, introduced during the first term of President Juan Manuel Santos' government in 2010-2014 and continued into the second term. It has a four-pronged strategy: infrastructure, services, users and applications. Connecting people to basic infrastructure has been the main focus over the last five years, using a blend of fixed and mobile technologies, installing thousands of community access centers in remote areas and putting computers in the hands of school children.
