Brazil crude steel production tumbles in Jan-Feb
Brazilian crude steel production slipped 13.7% year-on-year to 4.89Mt in January-February, according to data from local steel industry association IABr.
Full-year crude steel production for 2015 slipped 1.9% to 33.2Mt.
Domestic steel sales for the first two months totaled 2.51Mt, down 22.7% compared with the same period in 2015, IABr said in a release.
Steel exports totaled 2.04Mt and US$741mn, up 16.2% and down 32.1%, respectively.
In the period, imports slumped 72.2% to 193,200t.
Apparent domestic steel consumption reached 2.70Mt, down 31.2% from January-February 2015.
Home to steelmakers such as Gerdau, Usiminas and CSN, Brazil is Latin America's biggest steel producer.
