Claro Colombia investing US$25mn in datacenter for Oracle cloud

Bnamericas Published: Saturday, August 20, 2022

Mexico’s Claro announced investments of US$200mn in Colombia, including a new outlay to refurbish its datacenter and host the Oracle cloud.

The figure includes a previously announced US$150mn to improve its digital solutions portfolio and US$25mn to bring fiber optics to 20 Colombian cities.

Another US$25mn will go to the Triara datacenter for the adaptation of its infrastructure. The datacenter, certified with ICREA V, will host the Oracle cloud.

"At Claro, we want companies of all sizes to find the support and solidity of a company with the best infrastructure, trained personnel and that makes the best alliances so that a true digital transformation is achieved," Carlos Zenteno, president of Claro Colombia, said in a statement.

In mid-July, Claro announced an agreement with Oracle to host its fifth cloud region in Latin America and market its cloud solutions to public and private sector organizations.

The agreement also includes the migration of more than 100 local servers for mission-critical processes (including billing) from Claro to Oracle's cloud infrastructure.

Oracle has similar agreements with Telmex, which like Claro is owned by América Móvil, in Mexico.
