Cloud computing becomes widespread among Mexican businesses
Cloud computing, particularly hybrid clouds, is the main trend in Mexico's data center segment, according to Luis Ochoa, director of operations at telecoms provider Alestra.
"Close to 84% of Mexican companies are adopting cloud services, either private or hybrid, and this is something that benefits us greatly," he told CIO América Latina magazine. This figure shows a significant advance for cloud computing, which only was only being used by 25% of the potential market in 2013.
Ochoa pointed out that companies of all sizes benefit from cloud computing, a segment in which Alestra is seeking to expand. In the case of small and medium-sized companies, a national cloud service provider can help them grow by consolidating their IT development.
According to Ochoa, smaller companies have to make quick IT decisions in order to adapt to the changing business environment. While traditional IT infrastructure takes weeks to install, a cloud system can be implemented in hours, helping smaller companies' IT departments align with the dynamic business climate.
Relying on cloud schemes also gives IT departments more time to focus on innovation and helps companies by reducing technology costs.
