Consulting firm to finish definitive studies for US$250mn Colombian port project
International consulting firm Royal Haskoning will deliver the final feasibility studies for Colombia’s US$250mn Puerto Futuro deepwater port within a month.
The port, at the mouth of Magdalena River in Barranquilla, will allow deep-draft ships to dock and cargo to be transported by cabotage, taking advantage of existing port infrastructure, a Tuesday city hall press release said.
A press release from March quoted mayor Jaime Pumarejo as saying that Puerto Futuro will enable more efficient cargo handling as convoys of more than 7,000t will move cargo via the river to the port, from where it will be exported.
Puerto Futuro will cover central Magdalena, part of Antioquia, Santander, Cesar, and Bolívar departments, the Cundiboyacense area, among others.
