Dutch company looks to invest up to US$400mn in Guatemala water plants

Dutch Clean Tech plans to invest between US$300mn and US$400mn in water treatment plants in Guatemala during the next few years, newspaper El Periódico reported citing CEO Sander Pielkenrood.
According to the report, the Dutch company that recently opened its Guatemala office looks to sign the first contracts next year for some US$100mn.
“Dutch Clean Tech offers not only technology to treat wastewater, it also has a financing model and we bring financing directly from the Netherlands for Guatemala,” said Pielkenrood.
“The plants have been designed save up to 35% energy and reach a solid waste management [processing rate] of 40%. The company invests 100% of the funds in construction, and we treat water as a service, the municipality pays for it and, if we don’t reach the European water parameters to allow it to be discharged in rivers and seas, they don’t pay for it,” he said.
The plants built by the company have capacity to process from 250m3 to 150,000m3 per day, the report said.
Dutch Clean Tech was founded in the Netherlands 60 years ago and provides water and sanitation solutions to a wide range of companies in the food, beverage and petrochemical industries, as well as government agencies. It also has a presence in Central Asia and Africa.
