Telefónica Móviles del Uruguay (Movistar Uruguay) is a subsidiary of the Spanish firm Telefónica S.A. with headquarters in Montevideo, which offers mobile telephony, international and national long distance communication, data transmission, and roaming and internet services for the Uruguayan market. Movistar Uruguay entered the Uruguayan market in 2005, by acquiring 100% interest in Abiatar; it currently operates over 1.7 million mobile connections; and totalized revenues of US$286.3 million in 2015. The firm holds concessions to supply 850 MHz 2G/3G services until the year 2024; 1900 MHz 2G and 3G connections until 2022 and 2024, respectively; and a 1900 MHz 3G/4G connection, until 2033.
