10 Peruvian banks receive e-banking approval
Ten Peruvian financial entities have reached agreements with mobile operators to offer e-banking services, local telecoms regulator Osiptel said in a statement.
The companies are El Banco de Crédito del Perú, BBVA Banco Continental, Interbank, Banco Financiero del Perú, Banco GNB Perú, Crediscotia, Financiera Credinka, Gmoney and Caja Municipal de Ahorro y Crédito de Sullana, and will be represented by Pagos Digitales Peruanos.
The operators participating are Telefónica del Perú, América Móvil and Entel Peru.
Osiptel must first approve the contracts signed between operator and bank to ensure that terms and conditions are the same for all. Should the operator and bank fail to reach agreement, Osiptel can impose the terms with an access order.
Last week, Peru's national bank association Asbanc and Ericsson launched a mobile wallet service known as "Bim", aiming to connect 2.1mn Peruvians.
In other news, fixed telecoms rates for Telefónica del Perú will fall 0.64% starting March 1, Osiptel said.
The measure will benefit 195,478 customers and lead to annual savings for the end user of 3.1mn soles (US$880,000).
