PC sales in Brazil fell 12% to 2.2mn units during the first quarter of this year, local press reported, citing a study from the country's electronic goods association Abinee. Quarterly desktop sales were 1.5mn units, an 18% year-over-year decline and a 9.5% decline from 4Q08. Notebook sales totaled 710,000, a 6.7% year-on-year increase, but a 33% decline from 4Q08. Overall PC sales are expected to increase 20% quarter-over-quarter during 2Q09, according to the press reports. Abinee expects 2009 PC sales in Brazil to remain flat at 12mn units. Desktop sales are expected to be 7mn, down 9% from the 7.7mn sold in 2008, while notebook sales are expected to approach 5mn, up 16% from the 4.3mn units sold last year. According to Abinee, PC sales growth worldwide is expected to be only 3.8% this year, mostly attributed to the global economic crisis.
