Aenor files for Fuerza Eólica del Istmo CDM registration

Bnamericas
Spanish certification firm Aenor has filed a registration request with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for a 50MW wind generation plant in Mexico's Oaxaca state, according to the UNFCCC website. The project is being developed in the Espinal municipality by local firm Fuerza Eólica del Istmo. The project is made up of 20, 2.5MW Liberty C-89 IEC turbines manufactured by US firm Clipper Windpower (AIM: CWP). The turbines will be mounted on 80m tall towers. Fuerza Eólica estimates a plant capacity factor of 48.85% and annual output of 214GWh, according to project design documents. The project is located directly next to state power company CFE's transmission line, and so will only require a 0.1km line with 115kV capacity to connect. If the request is approved, the plant would qualify as a clean development mechanism (CDM) project, making it eligible to receive carbon credits tradable on the international market under the Kyoto Protocol. The project would reduce CO2 emissions by 933,453t/y over the seven-year crediting period that would start in September 2010. Power generated by the plant would largely go to one of Mexican mining group Industrias Peñoles' metallurgic plants, according to a previous BNamericas report. The 50MW plant is the first phase of a total 100MW to be installed at the site by Fuerza Eólica del Istmo.
