The winner of a tender to carry out a 76mn-real (US$26.4mn) sewerage project for Brazilian city Blumenau is expected by mid-May, an official from the city's water utility Samae told BNamericas. The five-year project, dubbed "Recuperaçao Ambiental de Blumenau," aims to increase sewage treatment to 26% from 2%. Technical offers from 20 companies are being evaluated, after which financial bids will be opened, said the official, without releasing company names. Works are slated to begin next half. The project includes expanding the sewerage collection network connected to the Garcia treatment plant and building a new one in the neighborhood of Fortaleza. In total, 250km of collection network will be installed. The federal government's national hydrographical basin cleanup program will help finance the plant expansion. Blumenau has over 260,000 residents and is in Santa Catarina state.
