Capstone produces 10,478t Cu in Q2

Vancouver-based Capstone Mining (TSX: CS) saw second quarter production of 23.1Mlb (10,478t) copper in concentrate, plus 3.3Mlb zinc, 2.3Mlb lead and 455,566oz silver, from its mines in Mexico, the company said in a statement. Copper output fell from 26.1Mlb in Q1. The company's Cozamin mine suffered a 5-day shutdown related to a Mexican government order aimed at curbing the spread of the H1N1 flu virus, while high-grade stopes were brought on line slower than expected. However, throughput at the Minto mine exceeded budget during Q2, averaging 3,200-3,500t/d, Capstone said. Last year the company reported output of 6.7Mlb copper, 2.9Mlb zinc, 1.5Mlb lead and 330,000oz silver for the second quarter. Overall output is expected to dip below average in Q3 and be above average in Q4, Capstone said. The company will report Q2 financial results on August 14.
