The national highway directorate (DNV) of Chile's public works ministry has pre-qualified the 11 groups that submitted background documents last month to pre-qualify for a 44bn peso (some US$60.1mn) contract to build the third and last stretch of the La Polvora highway in central Region V, a DNV official told BNamericas. La Polvora will be an alternative access route that will connect capital Santiago and Region V port city Valparaiso. The groups are: Ferrovial Agroman Chile; Mendes Junior & Asociados; Constructora Tricam-Ingenieria Civil Vicente-Puga Mujica y Asociados; Consorcio Icafal-Vial y Vives-Echeverria Izquierdo Ingenieria y Construccion-Echeverria Izquierdo Montajes Industriales; Empresa Constructora Brotec; Consorcio Constructora Internacional-Constructora Raul Gardilcic-Claro-Vicuna-Valenzuela; Consorcio Tecsa Fe Grande Con-Pax Valko; Empresa Constructora Belfi; Sacyr Chile; Besalco; and Consorcio Obrascon, Huarte, Lain-Abengoa Chile. Invitations will be sent to the groups this week informing them that offers are due March 20, said the official. In October, public works minister Javier Etcheberry declared the original process void because all bids received were over the project budget, with Besalco submitting the lowest bid of some US$60.5mn. The other companies that had submitted offers were Belfi, Delta and Mendes Junior, which the ministry invited to submit bids under a closed tender process.
