Brazilian integrated power company CFLCL started operations on November 25 of the first 41MW unit at the 82MW first phase of the Juiz de Fora plant. The plant, in Minas Gerais state, will have 103MW capacity when completed in December 2002, CFLCL said. *** Brazil's energy & mining minister Jose Jorge told local press that there will not be extraordinary rates rises in 2001, and that rises in 2002 will be applied gradually to offset power companies' increased costs due to rationing. *** US-based research firm Frost & Sullivan has issued a report on how Argentina's economic crisis is affecting the energy markets in each of its neighbors.
