SMC Networks seeks wholesaler

Bnamericas
US networking solutions provider SMC Networks is seeking a fifth wholesaler to boost its new business strategy in Mexico, Infochannel reported. The company currently has four wholesalers: APC, Ingram Micro, CVA, and Sistemas Aplicados. To select the new wholesaler, the company will weigh up the options regarding technical and commercial support as well as the wholesaler's network with distributors. According to Genaro Ramos, director of SMC Networks México, the introduction of SMC's new products will enable the company to target the high-end market segment, when the company has traditionally targeted SMEs and small office/home office professionals (SOHO). Among the new products are the enterprise workgroup switch TigerSwitch (which incorporates more ports and scalability) and the Elite wireless bridge (for connecting two or more LANs). SMC has a two-pronged business strategy: to introduce new business products, and to establish partnerships with services providers. "Currently 85% of SMC's business comes from SOHO and SME sales," Ramos said, adding that this new drive aims to grow the mid-large business proportion by increasing product sales in that sector by 30-40% over the next two quarters. The company seeks to hold its market share in the lower and middle range segments but compete more in the corporate market. The strategy is to continue with the same inventory, availability and technical support, Ramos said. The company also plans to certify 30 or 40 business partners for distributing TigerSwitch and in a second phase certify Elite distributors.
