Chile's Securities & Exchange Commission (SVS) has requested integrated energy and waterworks company Chilquinta to submit further details regarding the proposed sale of its distribution business Enerquinta, which operates in the country's regions V and VII. The SVS requested specific information on how much of Enerquinta was on offer, and the objectives of a study of the sale that Chilquinta would commission. The SVS also asked for details of potential investors with whom Chilquinta had already spoken. Chilquinta, owned by the Hurtado Vicuna and Fernandez Leon families, announced last week that conversations with a potential buyer were failry well advanced. Interest now centers on Portugal's power utility Electricidade de Portugal (EDP), whose president Mario Cristina de Sousa said recently that he would like to buy the Chilean company. Enerquinta owns 15% of Argentine power plant Central Puerto and 37% of Peru's distributor Luz del Sur. In Chile, the company is the third largest distributor and has interests in gas distribution and waterworks.
