Santiago-Talca Road Concessionaire Presents EIS
Bnamericas Published: Thursday, January 28, 1999
Spain's Cintra-Santander consortium, winner of a US$750mn concession to build and operate Chile's Santiago-Talca Route 5 highway, has presented environmental authority Conama an environmental impact study (EIS) for a 46.6km Santiago access section. Cintra-Santander's report lists particle emission and noise pollution in Santiago's southern sector as the principal negative effect of the highway section, and proposes the introduction of acoustic barriers as one possible solution. The report also addressed land expropriation issues. Benefits would include the strengthening of industrial zones, opening up new possibilities to depressed urban zones such as La Granja, La Pintana and La Florida and traffic flow relief. The access route would run from Angostura de Paine to Santiago's Americo Vespucio beltway.
